Put Christ First!

The aim of a disciple is to be like his master. As followers of Jesus we are called to leave the cares and desires of this world behind us and to follow Jesus completely. In doing this, we worship Jesus by giving Him the preeminence in our lives. As we continue through the discipleship process, our thoughts and actions should become increasingly focused on his word and in imitating His life. In Matthew 16:24-25, Jesus said “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake shall find it.” Discipleship involves a total commitment from the individual. Jesus is seeking those who are sold out to Him, and who are committed to overcoming every obstacle that stands opposed to becoming like Him. He is seeking for zealots and fanatics who are passionate about Christ and who devote themselves to emulating Him in every aspect of their lives. It is in voluntary self-denial that we truly worship Christ. It is when we exchange our wants and desires for His wants and desires that we truly engage in the worship experience. Following Christ with our whole heart must be the goal of all true disciples.

Broken Crystal Goblet with Shards of Glass Breaking Away from the Stem

In Romans 6:23, Paul points out that our sins have separated us from God. If that was the end of the story there would be no hope, we would be doomed. But God has a purpose for us. His purpose according to John 10:10, is for us to have peace and for us to have a life. To fulfill His purposes He came up with a plan, that’s the good news. According to Romans 5:8, His plan was to send His son Jesus to pay the price for sin. Right now you may be wondering what you need to do. Romans 10:9 gives us the answer. Confess Jesus as Lord, and place your faith in Him. Maybe you think that God couldn’t love someone like you. I’ve been there. But he promised us in Romans 10:13 that everyone who calls on His name will be saved. Today is your day of freedom. Jesus is waiting for you.
