The aim of a disciple is to be like his master. As followers of Jesus we are called to leave the cares and desires of this world behind us and to follow Jesus completely. In doing this, we worship Jesus by giving Him the preeminence in our lives. As we continue through the discipleship process, our thoughts and actions should become increasingly focused on his word and in imitating His life. In Matthew 16:24-25, Jesus said “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake shall find it.” Discipleship involves a total commitment from the individual. Jesus is seeking those who are sold out to Him, and who are committed to overcoming every obstacle that stands opposed to becoming like Him. He is seeking for zealots and fanatics who are passionate about Christ and who devote themselves to emulating Him in every aspect of their lives. It is in voluntary self-denial that we truly worship Christ. It is when we exchange our wants and desires for His wants and desires that we truly engage in the worship experience. Following Christ with our whole heart must be the goal of all true disciples.
